Mystic Cards of Fortune c. 1882 & Mystic Blues
$43.00
The original version of this deck the Lenormand Museum dates at c.1850 was only B/W line drawings to which color has been added to the Heart & Diamond inserts.
This version from the New York Museum is very similar with almost all images lifted from the original 1850 deck that was published by the McLoughlin company of New York in 1882. It was entitled the "Mystic Cards of Fortune."
The cards that differ most notably are the Coffin, the Clouds and the Ship that, in this version, flies an American flag. This restored deck was all black and white line drawings and all the inserts were black. The only alteration that I have made to the faces of these cards was to change the color of hearts and diamonds to red. I also added a back design because the original was blank.
In case you have noticed, these cards closely resemble another deck from the late 1800s -- Madame Morrow's Fortune Cards. I investigated and found that there was a good reason why they resembled Madame Morrow's cards -- because fourteen years later, in 1896, McLoughlin also published Madame Morrow's Fortune Cards.
And ...
Oh! The horror! Reversing the colors of the Mystic Cards of Fortune! Well, there's a reason.
Ever get down and nothing seems to be going right? Just plain blue? And you just want to wallow in it for awhile? I had been going through one of those periods. And none of the beautiful traditional cards helped.
So I did something I didn't think I would ever do. I changed one I saw that line drawings made it easy to read even with the reversed color. . I gave it the blues, just like mine. This one is a white-on-blue version of the McLoughlin Mystic Cards of Fortune. The only other color is the red of the Hearts and Diamonds. Oh, and another thing I altered with this deck; for some reason the Queens were not identified with playing card designations. Odd. I put the appropriate playing card symbols on the Queens.
So when you find yourself in a blue mood, here's a Lenormand deck you can still read with.
I also made a mini so when you're sad on the road, you can take it along for company.
The cards are made for people who plan to use their cards often. They are printed on modern day, casino grade card stock (black core, 320 gsm) that can be riffle shuffled and feels wonderful in hand and come in a tuck box. Card size is 2-1/2 x 3-1/2"
The decks will be specially ordered just for you and mailed in 3-4 weeks, although probably sooner.
